Think on These Things



Life is filled with endless distractions, isn't it? There’s so much that pulls at us daily—work responsibilities, personal challenges, and even the constant flood of news. It's easy to get caught up in the noise. But what if we pressed pause and refocused our thoughts on what truly matters? Philippians 4:8 gives us such a powerful framework:

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8, NIV)

This passage invites us into a heart shift, an intentional choice to direct our minds towards the goodness all around us—even when it's hard to find. It’s not about ignoring the difficult moments; instead, it's about choosing to see the light shining through them.


Choose Truth in a World of Lies

Truth feels elusive sometimes, doesn’t it? We’re surrounded by so many conflicting messages that can leave us feeling unsure, confused, and insecure. But the Word of God is unwavering, reminding us that truth is not a feeling—it’s a person. Jesus calls us to rest in His truth. When we anchor our minds here, clarity replaces confusion, and peace fills our souls.


Seek What is Noble and Lovely

In a world that often celebrates the loud and chaotic, we are called to look for the noble and the lovely. These qualities are easy to overlook, but they are always present—in the kindness of a friend, the beauty of creation, or even in a quiet moment with God. When we take time to dwell on what is noble and lovely, we give ourselves permission to experience joy, even in the mundane.


Pursue Excellence and Praise

Excellence isn’t perfection; it’s about showing up with a heart that seeks to honor God in all we do. It’s choosing to praise Him in both the victories and the struggles. By focusing on what is praiseworthy, we shift from a mindset of lack to one of abundance. Even in moments of uncertainty, there’s always something to be grateful for.


A Daily Practice

What would it look like to truly live out Philippians 4:8 each day? Maybe it’s as simple as starting your morning by recalling three things you’re thankful for. Maybe it’s offering a word of encouragement to someone else. Or maybe it’s pausing in the middle of a stressful day to remind yourself of God’s truth. Whatever it looks like for you, know this: our minds are powerful, and the thoughts we choose can shape our days. Let’s choose wisely. Let’s choose what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. Because when we do, we begin to reflect the beauty and hope of Christ Himself.
