Don't Stress...vote

Don't Worry About the Election (But Do Your Part!)

As we head into another election, the air is filled with opinions, predictions, and—let’s be real—a whole lot of anxiety. It’s easy to get swept up in it, but I want to share a little story about why I’m not stressed and why you shouldn’t be, either.

As a ministry director at New Life, one of my main roles is overseeing every major event. There are contingencies in place for the budget, the participants, and even the weather for our annual Sunday in the Park. No matter what I put on paper as this grand plan, a drop of rain—or a downpour, as we’ve had some years—can change everything. It’s one of my most stressful events. Why? Because I can’t control that part! Every time it’s rained—which has been only a few times—we’ve had an amazing time anyway, thought quickly on our feet, and made the adjustment. What’s my point? There are many aspects of this election that are out of our control, but who and what we can control is what we do, what we say, and how we respond. Right now…let’s vote and get others in our sphere of influence to do the same.

The truth is, we don’t have to predict the future. We just need to stay grounded and trust in a plan bigger than ours. God’s word has a few things to say about anxiety—like Philippians 4:6: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” That means we can pray, give thanks, and then breathe easy. The Lord’s already got it under control, and no amount of worrying will change that.

So, what’s our part? We do what we can. Go vote. Encourage others to do the same. Be informed, not overwhelmed. After that, let’s remember Matthew 6:34, where Jesus says, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” GURL...Amen to that!

Between now and Tuesday, let’s stay grounded. Pray. Vote. Then turn off the news, take a deep breath, and trust that whatever comes, we’ll handle it together. And if all else fails, just remember that no matter what, God’s got this, and He’s got us.
